The Autonomous Administration adopted an official emblem in December 2018. This is the official flag of Rojava (Western Kurdistan) since Kurds declared their self-autonomous region. This flag became more commonly used by Syrian Kurds than the usual "sun-emblazoned" flag of Kurdistan by 2013, along with the declaration of a de-facto autonomous Syrian Kurdistan. The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES), also known as Rojava, is a de facto autonomous region in northeastern Syria. [13] [14] It consists of self-governing sub-regions in the areas of Afrin , Jazira , Euphrates , Raqqa , Tabqa , Manbij and Deir Ez-Zor .
